Frozen by a Thousand Blessings

Its freezing at Toa Payoh Lorong 1.  A yogurt bar, Frozen by a Thousand Blessings, which specialises in organic yogurt has opened.  Frozen by a Thousand Blessings is actually a yogurt bar based in Australia,  therefore the yogurt is air-flown from Melbourne

Being a self-served yogurt bar, the price of yogurt depends on the amount of yogurt you dispense.  As stated on the sign, 100 g of yogurt will cost $3.80. 

There are a 6 different flavours : Green Tea, Mango & Soy, Coconut, Pomegrantate, Chocolate and Original

I like the promegrant flavour best as it is slightly sour.  There are also around 20 types of toppings to choose from.   If you want your yogurt to be more flavourful, there are 3 types of sauce for you to add : chocolate, hazelnut and original. 





Pretty information cards indicate the ingredients and calories of different flavour of yogurt.  This allows customers to understand what they are eating. 

Instead of having coffee or tea all the time, it is good to have yogurt once in a while for a change.
It is also healthier than other regular deserts such as ice cream and cake.

Slappy Pancakes

Slappy Pancakes is a fun and popular breakfast spots in Portland, USA.  It has been in Singapore since 2009.  This is a place for parents who don't know what to do with their children.  This is also a place where children have the right to play with their food.

Anyone can have lots of fun at Slappy Pancakes if they follow the following steps.

Step 1
Select the types of batter. 

There are basically 5 flavour to choose from, chocolate; whole grain; peanut butter; buttermilk and the unusual zucchini. 

Step 2
Select toppings.



Step 3
Create your own pancakes.


We followed these 3 steps and had a fun and creative lunch at Slappy Pancakes.  I had buttermilk batter with sautee mushrooms and ham for toppings.  Then we transformed into 'Food Artist'.



Adults who do not enjoy creating their pancakes can choose from the a-la-cart menu.
We had Bolognese and Old Fashioned Breaded Dory Fish.  I wondered if it was due to the fun we had, we also enjoyed the Bolognese and Breaded Dory Fish.  I must comment that although the dory fish was deep fried, it was not oily at all.







 
Slappy Pancakes was not only awarded the "America's Best" by Food Network but also "Best of the Best Family Friendly Restaurant" by Parents World (2013) and "Best Dessert Awards 2014" by The Food Journal, Best in Pancakes Concept. (Issue 3) 2014.

Chicken Pie using Campbell Cream of Chicken Soup Recipe

I wanted to bake something for the New Year Celebration party.  I didn't want to bake cake as most of my friends did not like cake.  I baked chicken pie instead.  It turned out to be a success and I received many positive comments.

Below is the foolproof and easy recipe.

Ingredients

1.  Chicken breast 200 g
2.  4 small potatoes or 2 large potatoes
3.  Half a cup of frozen vegetables
4.  1/3 can cream of chicken
5.  dash of black pepper
6.  1 shallot (minced)
7.  1 tsp milk (optional)
8.   2 puff pastry sheets


Method

1.  Pre-heat oven to 160 degree.
2.  Cut potatoes into small cubes.  Pour potatoes into a pot of boiling water.  Cook until tender. Drain potatoes and put them aside.
3.  Cut chicken breast into small cube.  Sautee shallot until fragrant and add chicken. 
4.  Add frozen vegetables  and potatoes when chicken is cooked. 
5.  Add cream of chicken, milk and black pepper.  Stir well until boil.
6.  Lay puff pastry sheet onto a pie tray.
7.  Pour mixture into the tray and cover the tray with another puff pastry sheet.
8.  Seal the pastry well.  Gently cut a few vent holes on top.
9.  Bake for about 30 mins or until golden.

How to make croutons

Croutons is a must for creamy soup and salad.  Last week, I invited friends over for dinner and decided to make salad.  My friends, especially their children, love the croutons.  The kids actually asked for more.


Ingredients 

1.  4 to 6 slices of bread (white bread or baguette)
2.  garlic powder or herbs (I use mixed dried herbs)
3.  some melted butter (about 3 to 4 tbsp)
4.  pepper


Method

1.  Cube bread into small bite sizes
2.  Toss bread into melted butter and mix well.  Ensure each piece of bread is coated with butter.
3.  Add pepper and herbs or garlic powder
4.  Place bread into a baking tray.  Bake for 10 to 15 min.


....... there you are, you have your yummy croutons.  Use more butter if you like it to be more buttery.
